WHAT TO EXPECT
The Michael C. Peer, DDS team has created a welcoming environment that instantly puts patients at ease. We go above and beyond to create positive dental experiences. At our dental office, you’ll be met with warmth and friendly banter. We’ll be with you every step of the way along your oral health journey, and our sole purpose is to help you and your family keep your smiles healthy.
Your first visit will take approximately 1 to 1.5 hours.
Periodontal Charting
Our team will first chart your periodontal (gum) health by measuring the space between each tooth and the surrounding gum tissue. The probing depth will help us assess current oral health and determine whether you need periodontal therapy (a deep cleaning).
Prophylaxis (Professional Dental Cleaning)
If there are no signs of gum problems, your hygienist will complete a prophylaxis. In this thorough professional dental cleaning, they will remove tartar buildup using special instruments as well as polish the teeth to remove plaque and surface stains.
X-Rays
Our team will also take digital X-rays of your mouth to help with our evaluation. We’ll do a full-mouth series of X-rays that includes bitewings. Comprehensive X-rays allow us to understand any current oral health issues you might have. We also use them as a baseline for monitoring future changes. We choose to use digital X-rays because they offer clearer images and less radiation compared with traditional X-rays. They also provide results instantly.
Evaluation Findings
Once our team has completed a thorough evaluation, we’ll tell you exactly what we’ve found so you are aware of the current status of your oral health. Your first visit is also an ideal time to discuss your overall oral health and dental goals. We’ll take the time to listen to any concerns you have and what you would like to achieve for your smile. Dr. Peer will then offer appropriate recommendations and provide you with options to help you along your smile journey.
Financial Consultation
Our financial coordinator is available for appointments if you need to discuss extensive dental work. They will arrange a separate appointment to go through your optimal treatment plan and costs.
