What is conscious sedation and do I need it?
Many people suffer from severe anxiety when they visit the dentist. Conscious sedation may be the right option for you! You won't be fully asleep during conscious sedation, but you will have little or no recollection of the procedure. A friend or family member should pick you up after your appointment, as you will be unable to drive yourself when your procedure is complete.
Will it hurt when I have my procedure done?
Your comfort is our highest priority. Painless, injection-free air abrasion fillings are offered whenever applicable, and nitrous oxide is available to help you relax. A mild, local anesthetic provides a pain free appointment for most procedures. There may be some mild discomfort when the anesthesia wears off for some procedures. An over-the-counter pain medication is usually adequate in most of these cases.
What is a crown and why do I need one?
If you have a broken tooth or a tooth that needs repaired because of deterioration due to cavities or decay, a crown may be the option recommended to you. Tooth decay eats away at your healthy tooth structure in much the same way as rust eats away at metal. If this decay is not removed from your tooth, it will continue to deteriorate the tooth until removal of the tooth is the only option. In some cases, the decay can be removed while leaving behind a portion of the healthy tooth structure. A crown can then be placed on the healthy portion of your tooth. This allows you to keep your natural, underlying tooth structure while restoring the look and function of your smile. Most crowns are precision-milled porcelain or full metal, gold or silver, and they are customized to give you a natural, long lasting smile.
